Curitiba is the capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná, and the eighth most populous city in the country. Populated largely by the descendants of European immigrants who came in the 19th century, it preserves many aspects of their German, Italian, Polish and Ukrainian heritage. With plenty of green spaces and a modern transportation system, Curbita features some of the most innovative urban planning in Latin America and is often used as a model for the development of other cities. One of its main attractions is the Curitiba Botanical Garden, with a greenhouse inspired by London's Crystal Palace.
