One of the four traditional cheese market cities in the Netherlands, Gouda is a popular destinations for visitors to South Holland. As old as the 1100s, Gouda is the sight of the creation of Gouda cheese, which is produced in the surrounding region. The Gouda cheese market runs every Thursday morning from 10:00am - 12:30pm from mid-June to August, and farmers from throughout the region to have their cheese weighed, tasted, and priced. Beyond the cheese market, the city is home to the largest church in the Netherlands, the Grote or St. Jans Kerk, the Verzetsmuseum, and the Gouda Museum.
