This valley is formed by the Pyrenees near the French border and is inaccessible by road. Near the village of Queralbs, Girona, travelers must take the rack railway or travel on foot to reach the valley, which sits 6600 feet above sea level. Here, near the lake and surrounded by mountains, is the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Nuria – a place of pilgrimage. Winter sport enthusiasts also visit La Vall de Nuria for its ski resort of the same name.
