Situated between the Rocky, Monashee and Cariboo Mountains, is the village of Valemount, which is also conveniently close to Jasper National Park. Valemount is also near Mount Robson, the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. Valemount was incorporated into a village in 1962; the town experienced an increase of population and recreation in the 1970s and 1980s. Valemount has had a strong tourism presence since the 1980s and is popular for its outdoor activities which include snowmobiling, horseback riding and skiing.
